Dr. Mauro Zappaterra
Dr. Zappaterra graduated from Harvard Medical School with an MD and PhD and now specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a particular focus on regenerative medicine, neuro-rehabilitation, neuroplasticity, musculoskeletal medicine, and pain. He completed his PhD doing work with neuronal stem cells and the effects of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in brain development and in the adult. He is published in numerous scientific articles on the CSF and his work was chosen as the cover image for the prestigious Neuron Journal.
Dr. Zappaterra has published an excellent mini-book titled, “Analysis of Cerebrospinal Fluid in Brain Development.”
Dr. Zappaterra’s research has been published in the following journals:
“The apical complex couples cell fate and cell survival to cerebral cortical development.” – Neuron (2010)
“The cerebrospinal fluid provides a proliferative niche for neural progenitor cells.” – Neuron (2011)
“The cerebrospinal fluid: regulator of neurogenesis, behavior, and beyond.” – Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences (2012)
“Isolation of Cerebrospinal Fluid from Rodent Embryos for use with Dissected Cerebral Cortical Explants.” – Journal of Visualized Experiments (2013)
